Wine museum
Floriánova street, phones: +421-517733108, +421-905355482 map, web Wine fans can enjoy the Wine Museum, which is housed in the ancient two-storey cellars under Prešov town hall. The museum offers an exhibition of wines from all over the Slovak and Moravian regions, and also from other parts of the world. There is also a remarkable display of objects that were once used to process wine. In the largest vaulted room, which can accommodate 50 people, you can sit at oak tables and experience the ambience of the ancient cellars while you enjoy good wine. If you particularly enjoy any of the wines, you can take one home - they are all available in the stylish museum shop. Museum of Jewish culture

Beautifuly decorated interiers with original oriental paintings make Prešov´s synagogue one of the most attractive in Slovakia. Inside you can find also Museum of Jewish culture. Museum Solivar - museum of salt
Zborovská 2/A, phones: +421-7757427, +421-918965698 map, web, [email protected] A national cultural heritage and it belongs among the most important technical heritage in Slovakia. It is a unique complex of technical facilities for pumping and processing salt from brine from the 17th century. Salt springs existed there since the Middle Ages. Salt was obtained from them until 1572 when mining started. As the mines were flooded by water in 1752, it was necessary to apply a different and new technology. The mine changed into an underground salt lake and the technology then applied consisted in extracting the salt water in leather sacks to earth surface with the help of a pump driven by animals. One such pump still exists in the pit Leopold. It is from the 19th century and accessible to public. In Solivar, apart from technical monuments, visitors can also see the former salt store, the cooking room František, and the chapel of St Roch. Opening hours 1.11. - 31.3. You can see already some objects of museum but you need to buy tickets so go down the "Zborovská street" and after 50 meters turn right, you will find a ticket office there. |

Šariš gallery
Hlavná 51, phone: +421-517725423, +421-517734038 map, web Šariš Gallery belongs to the oldest regional galleries in Slovakia. It was founded in 1956. Its collections are among the most valuable and interesting in Slovakia. Today it manages more than 40,000 works of art from the end of the 15th century to the present with regard to the Eastern Slovakia, but also with works of the founding figures of Slovak Modernism, important personalities of Slovak art. Numerically the strongest is the art collection of the 20th century. The gallery collects arts of founding figures of modern Slovak art (Martin Benka, Ľudovít Fulla,…), works of important representatives of Slovak and Eastern Slovak art from the first half of the century (Elemír Halász-Hradil, Joseph Bendík, Konštantín Kóvári,…) and works of painters, sculptors, graphic artists of the region. Jonáš Záborský theatre

Jonáš Záborsky Theatre (DJZ) in Prešov was founded in 1941. By the 1970s the popularity of its regular presentations of premiere Slovak theatre led DJZ to focus on producing dramas. The drama and opera sections of DJZ merged into a single artistic unit in July 2005. In 1990 the theatre moved from the Historic Building into the so-called New Building of the DJZ (Námestie legionárov street). Since 2002 DJZ has again performed in the reconstructed Historic Building of the DJZ, which is very popular with audiences. Throughout its existence DJZ has performed a total of 730 premiere shows. It has proved its high artistic standards not only in domestic but also in foreign performances in many European countries. Alexander Duchnovič theatre
Jarková 77, phone: +421-517732700 map, web This theatre was founded in 1945 as a Ukrainian national Theatre (Rusyn language was officially prohibited). In 1990 after Velvet revolution and fall of communism in Czechoslovakia it was renamed after a priest and social activist of the Rusyn and Ukrainian nations Alexander Duchnovic (Oleksandr Dukhnovych). The plays are in Rusyn (ruthenian) language. You can buy tickets 30 minutes before performance or in ticket office in theater (the entrance is behind the corne from Šarišská street and it is open during work days from 8:30 - 15:30). |

PKO - Park of culture and rest
Hlavná 50, phone: +421-7723741 map, web This building is situated in the center of Prešov between Hlavná and Slovenská streets. PKO serves the cultural and social needs of the city. The Hall Black Eagle is for its historical character popular place to host weddings, graduations ceremonies, balls, graduations and major social events. It organizes concerts of classical and traditional music as well. The Prešov music spring and autumn, music, performances of professional and amateur artists, programs for children and youth and educational concerts are realizing here. PKO does not operate its business only in the historical building of Black Eagle. It inherently includes five cultural centers, providing space for dance, music, cultural, sporting and social activities for inhabitants of individual parts of the city. Their website is only in Slovak language, but you can ask in Information Center (Hlavná 67 - some meters next to the city hall) about actual program of PKO. |

Check the actual program on their website (only Slovak version but with a little patience you can catch the name of a film, date and and director, so the rest you can find on Google to decide if you want to watch it). They are screening more times a day, but the first performance starts mostly at 3 pm. Usually films are in original language with Slovak or Czech subtitles. There is a 3D cinema as well. The prices are higher than in other cinemas in Prešov, but you will enjoy cozy seats and very good sound. You can buy tickets just before the performance. Planetarium and observatory

The activity concentrates on students and schoolmasters of all kinds school, nursery-age children and various interest groups as well as individuals from the rank of general public. The scientific and educational programs centre on observation of solar photosfere. Interesting, sometimes almost untraditional views on the Universe, stellar sky and our and Earth are presented to the public in the form of audiovizual programs in the planetarium and lecture hall, videoprojetions, exhibitions, evenings spent with telescopes, etc. This is a perfect institution if you want to change your minds and to relax. It´s a pity that their website is only in Slovak, but it is worth of visit this institution, so ask somebody to translate their actual program for you! Entry: 2 € How to get here: It is not very far from the city center, just 25 minutes on foot. But you can take a bus too - bus 21 (direction "Malý Šariš") or bus 15 (direction "Nemocnica") from the city center (bus stop "Na Hlavnej" or "Trojica"). After 6 minutes you have to get off at bus stop "Nemocnica". You need to continue down the main road (Šafáriková street) and after 170 meters you have to turn right into Dilongova street. Planetarium is almost on the end of Dilongova street. |

Climb the church tower
The church tower of St. Nicolas church is usually opened every day in summer time (june - august). You will see some young people in front of entrance who sell you a ticket (1 Euro). Then you will have a wonderful view at the city center and faraway mountains. If you want to climb the tower in off-season, you need to make a reservation and to call Mrs. Vernarská (+421-908987319) who has a key. If is there any problem with reservation just ask in Tourist Office for more information. |

Climb the Water tower
crossroad between Metodova and Moyzesova street map Newly reopened tower which offers you a different view at the city (one of the highest points of the city - circa 265 meters above the sea level) and its nice surroundings. If you have nice weather, you are able to see 100 kilometers far mountains of High Tatras! It was build sometimes between 1910 - 1918 and its former use was as a water storage tank. During socialism especially in 1980s - 1990s it was favourite pub of locals. Then it was closed for very long period and after some years it was reconstructed in autumn 2013. Today, there is a café on ground floor and after you climb 135 stairs you will reach the panorama terrace on the top (25 meters high). You will need only 7 minutes to walk from the St. Nicholas cathedral to the tower. |
